DENTAL CARE
Over the last decade, we have recognized the increased importance of dental health in pets. According to the American Veterinary Dental Society, 70% of adult cats and 80% of adult dogs show symptoms of oral disease.
Your pet’s oral care is more important than you think.
Maintaining strong dental health and a regular cleaning program assures that your pet’s mouth and teeth will remain in excellent condition. It will also help to prevent infections that can spread through the bloodstream to affect major organs such as your pet’s liver, kidneys, and heart. Tartar, gingivitis, and tooth decay occur over time in most pets because they don’t get their teeth brushed as often as we do, if at all. Dental disease is a constant source of infection for the heart, kidneys, and other organs. It also produces discomfort and pain that may decrease your pet’s desire to eat solid foods or play with toys.
We are proud that we have the most up to date equipment to treat dental disease, including digital dental x-rays. This allows us to detect if there is any disease beneath the gum line that we would not be able to see otherwise. We are often able to see undetected abscesses, broken teeth, resorbed roots, retained roots, and more thanks to dental radiographs.
We offer digital x-rays, too.
Digital oral radiographs provide excellent resolution and precise detail of potential problems occurring below the gum surface. This helps with the diagnosis of unhealthy and painful situations such as abscessed teeth, bone resorption, and the accurate location and evaluation of jaw fractures, most of which would not be able to be identified otherwise.
If an extraction is needed, we can help.
Our well-trained staff is abreast of the latest techniques, and our doctors have trained under board-certified veterinary dentists. We use additional local anesthesia during dental extractions to ensure that your pet does not feel any discomfort during or after the procedure. Our goal is to educate you on the importance of dental care and provide your pet with a healthy, comfortable mouth.
