DIAGNOSTICS

Early detection of any disease is vital when treating it. This is why we recommend routine wellness exams and bloodwork for our clients.

Let’s work together to protect your pet for the long haul.

Blood work and urinalysis serve multiple purposes, including diagnosing disease and determining the health of your pet. Yearly tests will check your pet’s organ functions and help define the general health of your pet, including potential problems that are often not visible during a physical exam. Obtaining baseline bloodwork and a urine sample when your pet is healthy provides invaluable baseline information that we can compare to whenever your pet is sick in the future. Regular testing also allows for early detection and monitoring for changes, especially as they age.

We have an in-house laboratory.

Many different diseases are diagnosed with bloodwork. We have a full Idexx laboratory in our hospital, which gives us the ability to get the answer as to why your pet is sick within minutes. This is the safest and best option in an emergency situation. Rapid diagnosis allows us to create a treatment plan within minutes so we can immediately work on making your pet better. Kidney disease, diabetes, liver disease, and infections are just a few of the problems that we can diagnose quickly with the use of our in house lab equipment.

We also use an outside laboratory.

VMC has the ability to send samples to outside reference laboratories for advanced testing to be completed. Results are often returned in several business days, and electronic copies are available to pet parents. For those less critical disease processes or routine testing, we use an outside laboratory to give us precise and accurate results. Some examples of tests that are sent out to the lab include hormone testing, GI panels for chronic diarrhea, titers, tissue biopsies, medication monitoring blood work, etc.
