Dr. Julie Reck

Dr. Julie Reck

Veterinarian / Owner

In 2011, Dr. Reck founded the Veterinary Medical Center of Fort Mill. She envisioned the practice flourishing into a collaborative place where multiple, talented veterinary professionals could work together to provide the best in veterinary care. Dr. Reck’s primary professional interests are surgical procedures and mobility preservation in dogs and cats. She offers free mobility pet care classes to the community, personal consults on pet mobility, and regenerative stem cell joint and body therapy. After seeing the outstanding benefits of stem cell treatment in her own dog, Simon, Dr. Reck is very passionate about providing the best treatment options and educating pet parents on all that is available.

Dr. Gamboni's Bio

Dr. Gamboni graduated from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 2007.  Immediately following graduation, Dr. Gamboni spent time in Blacksburg, VA at a small animal practice and in Fredericksburg, VA practicing emergency medicine. In March 2012, she made the move to the Carolinas and joined the Veterinary Medical Center of Fort Mill team. Her passions in veterinary medicine include internal medicine, dentistry, and pain management.  Dr. Gamboni became a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist (CVA), graduating from the Chi Institute in 2014.  Outside of the clinic, Dr. Gamboni loves visiting National Parks, running on a treadmill, snacking on kettle-cooked chips, and enjoying Starbucks lattes! Her four-legged family member is a 12-year-old pit/lab mix named Mr. Cole who loves swimming and Dogster’s ice cream. 

Monica Tarantino, DVM

Dr. Tarantino's Bio

Dr. Tarantino graduated from Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg Va. She was a student ambassador at her veterinary school and served as vice president of the Emergency Medicine Club at Virginia Tech. Dr. Tarantino was selected for a summer externship program to India, where she worked in clinics in southern India and learned about public health issues as they relate to veterinary medicine. She also had the opportunity to be a clinical case presenter at an International Veterinary Conference held at Madras Veterinary School in Tamil Nadu.

Dr. Tarantino has worked both in general practice and emergency medicine, where she gained a wide range of experience. Her particular interests include emergency medicine, internal medicine, and geriatric pet health. Dr. Tarantino has written articles for PetMD.com, Great Pet Care, and Spruce Pets. She is passionate about promoting health for dogs. This year she launched the Senior Dog Revolution podcast to help owners overcome the unique challenges of having a senior dog and setting them up for a happy and healthy life. Available on Apple, Spotify, and Stitcher. She also shares tips and tricks for caring for a senior dog on her website SeniorDogRevolution.com.

Dr. Tarantino is very passionate about leadership in veterinary medicine. In fact, she helped to mentor first-year veterinary graduates through an internship program at Animal Medical Hospital from 2015-2017. And in 2020, she co-founded Veterinarians on the Rise, a program geared towards helping new veterinarians transition into practice. She also co-authored a book for new veterinarians called New Vet Jumpstart Guide which is available at Barnes & Noble and Amazon.

Dr. Tarantino has four dogs and two cats that she rescued and occasionally will take in a foster animal just for good measure. She is passionate about promoting the rescue of animals and lives with her wonderful fiancé and numerous pets in Charlotte. In her free time, you can find her running, reading, and traveling.

Nikki Johnson, DVM

Dr. Johnson's Bio

Dr. Johnson was born and raised in the Tampa, Florida area and attended the University of Florida for her undergraduate and Veterinary school degrees. Go Gators! She started practicing in Tampa in 2016 before moving up to Charlotte and joining the VMC family in February 2018! The amazing staff here at VMC is what she reports drew her to this practice and why she loves working here so much. Dr. Johnson is especially passionate about dentistry, hospice care, and internal medicine cases. 

In her free time, Dr. Johnson loves to go hiking, rock climbing, and doing yoga. She has two pets — 3-year-old rescue mix-breed dog named Piccolo and a 6yearold cat named BeanDr. Johnson says that they are both incredibly snuggly, and Piccolo can often be seen sleeping at her feet. 

Elizabeth Franklin, DVM

Dr. Franklin's Bio
Dr. Franklin graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. She moved to Fort Mill from Savannah, GA, where she practiced small animal general medicine, emergency medicine, and exotic pet and wildlife medicine.

Dr. Franklin loves working with all animals, but especially loves feline medicine and is a proud American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) member. She also really enjoys surgery, pet nutrition, and behavior consultations.

She has three fur-children — two orange tabby cats and a black lab mix. In her free time, she enjoys playing games of all kinds, watching movies and tv shows, and doing crafty things (puzzles and nail art are a couple of her favorites). She also loves exploring trails and paths with her pup.
